GOD IS A CONSTANT.
You are the constant
And you won’t change
The one sure thing
The one sure thing
You are the promise
That never will break
The one sure thing
The one sure thing
The fear that has held me
Is starting to fade
You are my strength,
I can take on these days
In a world that’s unraveling
You’re the one sure thing

The chorus above is my favorite track from one of the songs done by a Canadian music group, The Color. The title of the track says “One Sure Thing”. This song always reminds me of an attribute of God that is not possessed by any other – unchangeability!
There’s a popular maxim that ‘the only constant thing in life is change.’ This means that nothing ever remains the same forever. People change, climates change, economies change, policies change, cultures and traditions evolve but it’s comforting to note that through all these transitions God remains the same, constant. This is possible because God is the one behind these changes! He changes situations and conditions without being changed Himself. We can say that God is like the enzyme/catalyst that brings about biochemical changes without being altered itself. He is the gentle whisper after the fire and the storms of life (1 Kings 19: 12).
Another interesting thing about God is that as He is unchanging so also are His promises. The Scripture refers to the constancy of God and His promises as immutability. This means ‘impossible to change’. God does not have the capability to change His promises!
“For when God made a promise to Abraham because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, saying, surely in blessing, I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thee. And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife.Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: (Heb. 6: 13-18). (See also Num. 23: 19, 1 Sam. 15: 29, Psalm 89: 34).
So whatever situation is changing you or things around you be rest assured that God remains the same and His promises for you WILL NOT change.
His love for us is constant. O Lord, I will always sing of your constant love; I will proclaim your faithfulness forever. I know that your love will last for all time, that your faithfulness is as permanent as the sky. (Psalm 89:1-2 – GNT). His unfailing love explains the provision made for our salvation despite the sin of mankind (John 3: 16). The unchanging nature of God does not mean that God is one old unbending bully entrenched in his parochial ways. Rather it shows God as being firm and fair in keeping His promises which are based on His just principles. The Rock! His work is perfect, for all His ways are just; A God of faithfulness and without injustice, righteous and upright is He (Deut. 32: 4). Reach out today for His love, you can bet that He’s there waiting for you.
Knowing that God is a constant is a comfort. It is a guarantee that He will always be there for us no matter what. In a world that is unraveling, He’s the one sure thing!
Maranatha!
