Buy the Truth
Then they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and taught. And they were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes (Mark 1: 21-22).
If you had cause to visit a clinic for a medical appointment, would you rather wait to be seen by the doctor or would you consult with the medical office assistant at the front office? Does it really matter who attends to you, seeing that they all work in the same place (clinic), and maybe, wear the same medical overcoat? If you are thinking the same way as I do, I would patiently wait in line to see a qualified physician than be attended to by the very first person I meet at the front office. Why? A doctor has undergone adequate training and possesses the requisite knowledge (information) and experience to give accurate diagnosis and proffer the best solution to whatever condition a patient might be presenting with.
In our text we read that Jesus taught as one having authority. He was able to convince the people by His teaching because He knew what He was talking about. He was with the Father from the beginning (John 1:1), is one with the Father (John 10:30) and speaks as instructed by the Father (John 12:49). He is the subject around whom the conversation revolves, and nothing could be more original! The people were astonished at His teaching because right there and then they were beholding and listening to the original. Just the way lovers of art marvel at the beholding of a masterpiece.
Today, beloved, I beseech you make sure you go for the original, don’t settle for counterfeit. If it’s not the original, it can never be the same as the original. Jesus is the original, no other source is authentic. He is the way, the truth and the life … John 14:6. Are you seeking, following and listening to the original? Not doing this is like hitting your head against a brick wall “For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth” 2 Cor. 13:8. Whatever situation you might be going through right now, just wait and listen to the Truth. Blind Bartimeus chose to listen to the Truth and he was healed. He ignored the multitude, the naysayers, the silent threats and the whispers.
Remember, buy the truth and sell it not … Pro. 23: 23 and the truth that you know will set you free … John 8:32
Blessings!
